The Department of Corporate Economics was established in 2003 with the objective of meeting the growing demand for Economists from the corporate world. The Department intends to enable the students to analyse the business environment and its impact on the corporate firm. With Economic Policies deciding the fate of every country and its people, knowledge of Economics places a person in an advantageous position.

The total number of students in the Department for the academic year (2006-2007) is 210
 
Programme Offered:
The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Corporate Economics, which includes Principles of Management, Accounting and Mathematics with Economics to equip the students with sound theoretical knowledge and quantitative skills.    
 
Eligibility to Register:
Students who have completed the Higher Secondary Examinations of the Tamil Nadu State Board or its equivalent in any discipline
 
Highlights of the Programmes:
As part of the B.A. Programme, the Department offers specialized courses on Linear Algebra for Economics, International Economics, Financial Accounting, Human Resource Management, and Marketing Management. The course offers tremendous scope to step into the Corporate World as Economic Analysts, Market Researchers, Accountants, Human Resource personnel, Marketing personnel. Even in Banking and Financial sectors there is a great demand for economists. The students can also pursue MBA, CA, ICWAI, MA, Business Journalism or Civil Services, after finishing the course.
 
Achievements:
The first batch of Corporate Economics have successfully completed the course with 100 % pass. Ramandeep Kaur of this batch has secured the first rank in the Madras University and has received a prize from the Finance Minister Mr. P.Chidambaram.
 
Activities:
The department organizes lectures and seminars by eminent scholars every semester. An inter-collegiate cultural event  ‘EVINCE’ is organized by the students and during the event, the students’ magazine E-CAM is released annually
 
Prizes :
PRIZES are given to the first rank holders  for each subject, every semester.
 
Future Plans :
The Department of Corporate Economics plans to have a network with various industry associations to provide on-the job training for the students during summer vacations and doing Project Work. The long-term plans of the Department include offering more programmes including P.G. Courses in Econometrics, which sharpens the skill in doing research and analysis and International Economics, which is more relevant in today’s liberalized economic environment.
