Rotaract club of Women’s Christian College
The Rotaract club of Women’s Christian College was initiated in the College in 1994. The club was officially chartered in March 1995 and is enrolled under District 3230 which is currently sponsored by the Rotary club of Madras Metro.

Avenues of Service :
For efficient functioning of the Rotaract club the club is split into various avenues of service namely

International Service
This committee is charged with the primary responsibility of enhancing knowledge with an international perspective, and in developing activities to promote international understanding and goodwill.
 
Club service
The committee is responsible for the attendance, membership, programs, fellowship, public relations and other related matters. Club service stands as the backbone for the functioning of Rotaract in College. Publicity of any kind regarding competitions or awareness programs are basically taken care of by club service.
 
Community service
This service has the responsibility of creating awareness of community needs. They formulate and develop appropriate activities for serving the community.
 
Professional development service
The committee develops programmes to stimulate awareness and acceptance of high ethical standards in business and professional life. 
 
Eligibility to Register :
Any undergraduate student of Women’s Christian College. In the second year, student have to compulsorily earn a credit by working for 50 hours in a year in Extension Activities and the Rotaract is one such Service. Students may earn extra credits by enrolling in the Rotaract Club and by putting in 50 hours of extension work in the first and third year also.
 
Activities :
  • An inter collegiate debate was jointly organized with the Rotary Club of Madras Metro on the topic Reservation of seats- Boon or Bane. The rolling trophy was won by the Ethiraj College for women.
  • A twin club project was done along with the rotaract club of University of Louisville putting up a variety entertainment show for the children of the Madersa-e-Azam orphanage.
  • Phoenix ’06 was conducted along with the Rotaract clubs of CEG and Anna Adarsh College.
  • The club donated tooth brushes, study charts and refreshments for the children of the Telugu Centre.
 
Facilities :
The Rotaract Room is located in Garden Hostel for storing important documents. The Rotaract notice board is used to diffuse club information on various projects.
 
Projects Completed :
 
Publicity of the club:
The charts were designed to create awareness on the activities of the Rotaract Club and its different avenues of service.
 
Workshop for office bearers:
The first project under the Professional Development Service for this year, was a workshop on Leadership for the Office Bearers of the Rotaract Club of Women’s Christian College conducted by Ms. Zarina, the college counselor.
 
Orientation Of the Club:
The orientation of Rotaract club was held. The guest speaker was Rtr. Sujith Kumar, HR manager at Infosys and also the Past District Rotaract Representative (PDRR).
 
Club Auditions:
Auditions were held for various events such as dance, dramatics, Indian music, western music and fusion dance.
 
Workshop on Assertiveness:
A workshop was held exclusively for Rotaractors which dealt with assertiveness. 60 Rotaractors attended this workshop which was conducted by the student counselor of the college Mrs. Zarina.
 
Visit To Telugu Centre- Outreach centre of the College:
Ten green Rotaractors were taken to the Telegu center, which is a balwadi for under-privileged children.
 
Installation:
The Rotaract club of Women's Christian College was installed. The Chief Guest was Rtn. George .B. Cherian, District Chairman-Rotaract Also present were Rtn. V. S. Pradeep-President of Rotary Club of Madras Metro, Rtn. K. S. Sarma-Youth Service Director, Rtn. P. S. Seshadri, and many other Rotarians, Rtr. Krishnaji-DRR, Rtr. Rajesh-DRS and other district officials were present. A community service project was implemented-remembering the victims of the Mumbai Blast.
 
Visit to the Cancer Institute:
A group of 15 Rotaractors visited the pediatric ward of the cancer institute at Adyar, Chennai. They interacted with the children and also played with them. Snacks were provided.
 
Nutritional Awareness among office bearers:
A questionnaire was distributed consisting of a series of questions to find out the pattern of eating.
 
OrientationFor Self-financed Section:
The orientation ceremony of the self-financed section of Rotaract club of WCC took place in the auditorium. The speaker was Rtr. Jaby John who is the PDRR. Also present were the district officials, and the District Rotaract Representative, Rtr. Krishnaji.
 
Visit to the Spastic Society:
Around 10 Rotaractors visited the Spastic Society at Kotturpuram. The Rotaractors spent time with the spastic children and interacted with them.
 
Gardening
The Rotaractors propose to landscape the area.
 
In Good Books
The top two books of the month would be listed out and their reviews would be put up on the notice board. The ratings are courtesy the British Council Library. Reviews by Rotaractors are also invited.
 
World Youth Day
There was a workshop conducted on “Youth Empowerment” by Mr. Mohan Daniel, an event manager.
 
World Peace Day
World Peace Day was celebrated by the Rotaractors pledging their cause towards World Peace and they all wore white to show their solidarity towards this mission.
 
Teacher's Day
Teacher’s Day was celebrated by greeting teachers with a card.
 
World Ozone Day
The World Ozone Day was celebrated by putting up information on depletion in the ozone layer.
 
Quiz
A general quiz was conducted exclusively for Rotaractors.
 
Visit to CHES
CHES is an organization which houses AIDS affected children. A few Rotaractors visited this place and distributed fruits and interacted with the children.
 
Awareness on cervical cancer
An Awareness programme on cervical cancer was conducted for the Rotaractors by the students of MOP Vaishnav College with the expertise of an oncologist from the Government hospital at Egmore.
 
World Literacy Day
World literacy day was celebrated by collecting stationery items and notebooks from the Rotaractors and donating them to the children at Bala Vihar which is an orphanage for the mentally retarded children
 
Dumb Charade
A Dumb Charades session was conducted for the Rotaractors.
 
Visit to an Old Age Home
The Rotaractors visited an Old Age Home called “Little Sisters of the Poor” and interacted with the inmates. Some of them also helped read out letters to the inmates who were unable to do so.
 
Slogan Writing
There was a slogan writing contest held on the topic-“Saving Trees”.
 
Project With Students of Earlham College
The students of Earlham College from USA were visiting our campus on a study trip, presented the club with a chart depicting what India means to them.
 
IQ Test
An IQ test was held for the Rotaractors.
 
District Events in which our club participated:
  • Awards ceremony and District Installation.
  • Beach Rally against Tuberculosis.
  • Chennai Olympiad.
  • District Assembly.
  • J. K. Samyukta Cricket Tournament
 
Magazines:
A bulletin Illumina was printed by the club.
 
Awards :
The club has been actively participating in all district events and winning coveted awards for the past four years.
 
Future plans :
  • Medical check-up for the non-teaching staff of the college.
  • Eye check-up for the students on campus..
  • Career guidance programme for corporation school students.
  • Joint projects with other Rotaract clubs in India and abroad.
