History has been taught in the Women’s Christian College from 1915.The Department has a glorious history spanning over years with efficient and eminent faculty members including founder principal Ms.Eleanor McDougall.

Eligibility Criteria:
Any arts, science and commerce students with 50% and above with fairly good command of English language may apply.
 
Highlights of the Programme:
The department offers the following specific courses

  • Archaeology
  • American Studies
 
Facilities:
The department has a video library, which consists of relevant films mostly portraying women’s issue and art & architecture, slide projector, OHP and a Computer.
 
Activities:
  1. The Department conducts a one year Diploma Course in Airlines Management and  Ticketing in collaboration with Kuoni Academy of Travel
    Students have been placed in the following corporate  companies.
    British Airways
    Air Sahara
    Carlson Wagonlit
  2. The Current affairs club is co- ordinated through a staff member of the Department.
  3. The Department celebrates “ Aavishkar”-Women’s day celebrations on March 8th
  4. The Department conducted a workshop on Oral History  in August 2005
  5. The Department organized a national seminar on “Terrorism and Human Rights” -Feb 2003
  6. The Department organized a Lecture on “The American Electoral Process: An Information Resource Approach”
 
Prizes :
  1. The Eleanor Mcdougall Senior History Prize-for the best student of History (Core) in the B.A. Degree class.
  2. The Lily Pithavadian Prize – for securing highest marks in arts and Architecture and           Archaeology.
  3. The Lily Pithavadian Prize-For securing the highest marks in History of USA 1945-2000 and Contemprory International Affairs.
  4. The Lily Pithavadian Prize Prize- for securing the highest marks in European History and  History of Japan & China(1900-2000 A.D)
  5. The Lily Pithavadian Prize-For securing the highest marks in Human Rights and Gender Studies.
  6. The Jessie Thompson Junior History Prize for securing the highest marks in History of India, Semester I-IV.
  7. The Lily Pithavadian History Prize for securing the highest marks in the core subjects in the II year History Class.
  8. The Lily Pithavadian Prize for securing the highest marks in the core subjects in the I year History Class.
  9. The Lily Pithavadian Prize for securing the highest marks in the supporting course in the I year History Class.
 
Future Plans:
To start many more of job-oriented courses that would enhance placements in Airline industry and corporate companies.
