| About the tree |
The tree gets its name from its star shaped fruit. The fruit is edible but toxic to those with renal disorders. Medicinally, the fruit acts as a laxative and is used in traditional medicine against fever, skin disorders, high blood pressure, and diabetes. It is a good source of vitamin C, potassium etc. The fruit's juice can be used to remove stains from linens. The flowers can often used against cough and the seed against asthma and jaundice.
