| The two year postgraduate course provides advanced level training in print, broadcast and web journalism. The curriculum also includes Advertising and Public Relations. The department is fully equipped to train students in the latest media technologies. Regular workshops are held on Photography, web designing and documentary filmmaking. The course provides opportunities for internship with variousmedia organizations. Women’s Christian College was the first to start MA Communication in 1997- the first of its kind in city colleges. |

| Candidates will be required to possess a minimum of 50 % marks in the main branch of study of any Bachelor’s degree of the University of Madras or any other University. |

Television/Radio Production
This course is meant to provide students hands –on training on audio- visual production techniques. TV and Radio Production workshops will be conducted to help students acquire technical skills necessary to succeed in the field. Students will be encouraged to explore a wide range of formats – mini – serials, documentaries, docu–dramas, commercials etc. students are expected to produce program in format of their choice (documentary, TV commercial, etc.) for both Radio and Television. |
Summer Internship- 1 (News Organization)
One month training in news media will expose the students to actual working conditions of daily newspaper or on-line news media or electronic media (TV and Radio news room). This internship is intended to enable students acquire field experience and Journalistic skills of reporting, writing and editing for medium of their choice. |
Internship- 11(Public Relations, Advertising or any other Media Organization)
One month training will expose the students to actual working condition of an advertising agency or a public relation division /firm. |
PR Campaign:
This assignment is meant to provide an opportunity for students to plan and execute a real time public relation campaign. |
Advertising Campaign:
This assignment is meant to provide an opportunity for students to plan and execute an advertising campaign. Assessment will be made based on the students’ ability to conceptualize a realistic campaign and their ability to bring theoretical insights to practical accomplishment. The focus will be on the following areas: Conceptualization, Translation of ideas into campaigns, Visualization, Designing & Layout, Copy Writing – headlines, body copy, base lines, slogans, logos, & trademarks, Typography, Writing styles, Scripting, Story board, Web designing, Audio visual medium (TV and Radio Advertising) |
Online-journal
Students will have to produce a complete real-time on-line journal. This journal is meant toprovide a platform for students to practice and sharpen their journalistic and writing skills.It also provides an opportunity for students to fine-tune their design and technical skillsin the production and packaging of news |
