The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry has been formally established in the year 2007 and is continually striving for excellence in teaching and research since its inception. The department motivates students through regular activities like guest lectures, workshops, and conferences thereby providing a platform for their growth in research. The students are encouraged to get trained in one month of internship in significant Chemical Industries and to pursue 2.5 months of project in reputed research institutions.
The department has got MOUs with institutions like CLRI(Adyar), Sri Ramachandra University(Porur) and Central Institute for brackishwater Aqua culture(CIBA)etc. |

- Mary Vurgese Chemistry Prize - awarded to the best outgoing student of the M. Sc Chemistry Class(Highest total in all the courses of semesters I to IV).
- Vedavalli & Krishnan Memorial Prize - awarded to the student securing the highest mark in core and core elective papers in semesters III & IV.
- Indra Shankar - awarded to the student securing the highest mark in core and core elective papers in semesters I & II.
