The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry has been formally established in the year 2007 and is continually striving for excellence in teaching and research since its inception. The department motivates students through regular activities like guest lectures, workshops, and conferences thereby providing a platform for their growth in research. The students are encouraged to get trained in one month of internship in significant Chemical Industries and to pursue 2.5 months of project in reputed research institutions.

The department has got MOUs with institutions like CLRI(Adyar), Sri Ramachandra University(Porur) and Central Institute for brackishwater Aqua culture(CIBA)etc.

Eligibility:
B. Sc Chemistry with first class from University of Madras or equivalent University with Maths and Physics as allied subjects

  1. Annual publication of ‘Chemmag’ – a chemistry magazine by contributions of articles from students and faculty members.
  2. Periodical organization of guest lectures, workshops and conferences by the faculty members of the Department
  3. Students are encouraged to present their project work in conferences hosted in College and in other colleges

Prizes and Awards:
  • Mary Vurgese Chemistry Prize - awarded to the best outgoing student of the M. Sc Chemistry Class(Highest total in all the courses of semesters I to IV).
  • Vedavalli & Krishnan Memorial Prize - awarded to the student securing the highest mark in core and core elective papers in semesters III & IV.
  • Indra Shankar - awarded to the student securing the highest mark in core and core elective papers in semesters I & II.
